A fun challenge, but now I need a rest LOL

I really love the way some of these turned out, my favs are:

Day 30 of the 30 day challenge

Well the last day of the challenge is here, and it is time to take a breather and stock of all the paintings. I like some much better than others and will work on a few some more after I have studied them. Sometimes it takes a while to be able to assess a painting more critically than when it has just been painted.

About this painting
This was painted from a photograph on Paint my Photo, in response to this week's challenge on Daily Paintworks. I painted it over three days as the trees refused to form into a painterly order. The lef-hand-most tree was painted and wiped several times. It started out as a very thick tree, but just did not look right. It's much better now I have given it some breathing space.

Limited palette
I used a limited palette of alazarin crimson, ultramarine blue, cadmium orange and a touch of cadmium yellow. Maybe I should have toned down the alazarin to make it less red? Let me know what you think?

About this painting
This painted was started a while ago with some left-over paint and I left it quite unfinished. It resurfaced yesterday and I decided to have another stab at it. I wanted an abstract feel, so I lost some of the original tulips (there were a lot of them) and made the remaining ones larger. But, they still looked a little too realistic and I felt myself tightening up.

Knowing that I would finish up with realism if I kept on, I decided to do something drastic.!. I got out a large palette knife and scraped over the whole surface to lose the definition. I was starting to like it better. I continued applying paint and scraping back in some places. I am now calling it done.
It certainly is colourful - an antidote to today's grey and rainy day.

I shall take a better photo tomorrow when the rain stops and I can go outside to take one without the glare.

 It has been so long since I have painted a painting using a brush, it took me a while to get back into the swing of things.

These clementines were straight off the tree, which is festooned in orange at the moment. They were calling out to be painted.

I placed them onto glass and in front of the window with the sun streaming through. Needless to say the sun moved so quickly I ended up finishing the painting without looking at the set-up, otherwise I would have tried to 'follow the light'. This way, I had the reference of where the light and shadows were and went with that.

Beautiful roses for day 26 of the challenge (only 4 more days to go)

I am not sure about this painting, it doesn't quite work for me, although the roses have some lovely impasto passages on this. I wonder if the background is just to fussy. I may go back into it and calm it down giving it a more even colour - or maybe there is just too much in this for a small painting?

About this painting
This is an upcycled painting, also of poppies, that I sort of liked but it was a bit dark. I decided to redo the painting (the original one had 5 poppies which also made it a bit crowded). I first painted the highlights with cadmium yellow and then hit it with the red. The painting is now much brighter and livelier and has more impact.

More red and more tulips for day 23 in the challenge. I love this red colour, it is Scarlet Lake by Winsor and Newton. I like to use it straight from the tube for a luscious red colour. When mixed with white it gives a lovely soft peachy/pink colour.

About this painting
I find that reds can quickly lose their vibrancy when the paint dries. To help the red stay bright, I always underpaint with yellow.

This painting is painted with thick impasto paint on a yellow ground. It's funny how an idea can spark off several paintings, especially when I have been procrastinating for so long about using these small canvasses. That's one of the good things about participating in a challenge like this, it makes you think outside of the box.
